Pet Care: Pet care means more than just looking after your pet. We will go a very long way to make sure your pet feels cared for, safe, loved and happy. We know it is not easy for animals to feel safe and free of worries when their owners are not present. Some animals take to change less easily than others. We use our experience and intuition and we go at the speed of your animal. We really love animals, and we REALLY care.
It all starts with us gathering information from you about your animal, his/her habits, needs, personality, medical conditions, and any other information which may be useful to know. All animals are different: although a chocolate labrador will be quite like another chocolate labrador in so many ways, there will be just as many things that differentiate one from the other. So when you first call us, these are the bits of information we will ask about. What is it you are looking for? How is your pet? What do you think s/he needs? Does s/he have allergies, need medication? Does s/he have any quirky habits, ticks or particular dislikes we ought to know about? We have a check list which will guide you step by step through all these questions, so we do not risk leaving anything out, and we can get a headstart in providing the best care we possibly can for your pet. A lot of this information can be ascertained over the phone, but we will also want to meet you and your pet(s), either at your home or at ours. This is the only way we can get a real sense of your animal(s). We do not charge for this initial visit - it's all part of what we do.
A proper Walk - the Highlight in any Dog's Day! Are you worried that your dog is home alone for too long? Are you at work during the day? Are you planning a holiday, and although a family member can look after your dog, you want to ensure it has one great walk a day?
We run a number of dog walking groups every day - rain or shine! There is space for younger and livelier dogs, and there is space for those who are older, maybe arthritic, or maybe by nature not all that fast on their feet. We walk in groups (as a pack) because dogs so enjoy interacting with other dogs. Our modern lives mean that our dogs do not all that often live in packs - yet that is what their make-up has programmed them to do. Even the quietest of dogs will thoroughly enjoy being an active part of a pack - it is what dogs do! We have seen many a shy, nerveous, fearful dog grow into a confident, calm and socially able dog! Often owners are amazed at the beneficial changes that occur within weeks and months.
Our walking groups are kept to manageable sizes so that each dog can receive a maximum of attention and care whilst still benefiting from being in a pack. Dogs are also matched for their level of energy and their size (although we have got a Jack Russel who very much enjoys the company of one of the Alsatians we walk, and it would have been cruel to split them up).
Personalised Pet Care: We firmly believe that animals benefit from being cared for in a way that acknowledges their specific nature - that of their species, and that of each individual animal. Each breed is different, and within each breed, each dog has their own personality. We believe in working with each individual animal, rather than forcing our human ways onto them. A habit willingly learned (ideally whilst having some fun!) is so much better than an order obeyed under a threat. An example or two will illustrate what we mean.
Dog Training: Many of the the dogs we have met in the past have required a little training to assuage particular spleens and habits they had developed previously. There was the Doberman who was scared to go out at night; the Greyhound who hated men; the Pointer who chased light reflections; and the many dogs who could not relax when in company of other dogs, despite being pack animals by nature. In each of the many cases we have encountered, we worked with the owners and their dogs to gently but firmly change these habits and patterns. The bulldog who urinated all over his owners' beds and setteas stopped urinating all over the place; the dogs who hated their owners' cats learned to first ignore and then tolerate them; the aggressive Alsatian was became a sociable dog who now enjoys walks with his 'mates'. All of these behavioural changes were brought about gently, by using non-intrusive, non-violent methods. We do not use electric shock techniques nor do we use brutal force: instead, we work with the dogs' own language and a system combining fun, repetition and rewards. And by the way, it is not true that you cannot teach an old dog new tricks!
Pet Sitting: We can look after your pet in your own home. Smaller animals such as birds, hamsters and rabbits benefit from not being moved out of their habitual environment; cats also do not enjoy their environments changing, as any catowner will know! We will put in the leg work and go to very great length to ensure your pets are cared for and are happy. We are police checked, which means that the police have issued a record stating that there is no criminal record against our name, and we also show you photo ID so you know that we are who we say we are! After all, you will let us into your home in your absence.
To sum it up:
We offer personalised pet care for your dog, cat and any other animals in your household. Our speciality is dog and cat care - we have got many years of experience in pet care, and privately we share our lives with seven cats and four dogs.
We will find a way to help you care for your pet - this is a promise! No two pets are the same, no two homes either! We are flexible and we will try our best to help out. Our main focus is the animal's wellbeing, and we will do what we can to meet his or her needs. There has not yet been a time where we could not help.
